La descripcion se ha llevado a cabo a nivel ab initio hartree-folk y incluyendo la correlacion electronica. Estos sistemas solidos se han representado mediante modelo de cluster incluyendo los efectos del resto del entorno cristalino de forma aproximada, en particular los efectos electrostaticos de largo alcance incluidos mediante conjuntos de cargas puntuales optimizadas para cada estructura cristalina. Los sistemas estudiados utilizando diversas tecnicas de analisis de las funciones de onda scf y ci son, los oxidos de alcalinoterreos, para los que se ha evaluado el desplazamiento de energias de enlace de niveles de core de laton en el oxido y en el metal, la naturaleza del enlace quimico m-o y el caracter de los estados excitados, el oxido de aluminio tipo corindon, al2o3, y diferentes
