La luz junto con la concentracion de sulfhidrico son los parametros que mas influyen en el desarrollo de las poblaciones naturales de bacterias fotosinteticas. La intensidad de luz y su espectro sigue una dinamica compleja que depende de la irradiacion estacional y de la transparencia del agua. Las bacterias fotosinteticas se adaptan a la intensidad de luz (aumentando su contenido especifico en pigmentos) y a la calidad o espectro (mediante carotenoides especificos). Se han analizado parametros bioquimicos (atp  proteinas).
