Se han determinado las condiciones optimas de mutagenesis con el compuesto 4-nqo en este organismo y han sido aislados mutantes en un gen no descrito anteriormente  carc  que muestran un defecto en la carotenogenesis y respuesta defectuosa de fotocarotenogenesis  siendo normales en la respuesta de activacion de la carotenogenesis por accion de la vitamina a. Se han estudiado las relaciones en la respuesta de fotocarotenogenesis entre la mutacion carc y otras mutaciones que afectan a la regulacion de la carotenogenesis  cara y cars  con respecto a la respuesta de fotocarotenogenesis  mediante el analisis cuantitativo de la capacidad de elaborar esta respuesta en heterocariontes con distintos alelos implicados en la regulacion de la biosintesis de
