El material se ha dividido en dos partes: texto y catalogo. Capitulo i: la necesidad de coleccionar; capitulo ii: aproximacion a la historia del coleccionismo de cuadros en la espa\u00f1a del siglo xviii; capitulo iii: el carlos iv coleccionista y la coincidencia entre el gusto artistico del monarca y el de godoy; capitulo iv: los origenes de la coleccion de godoy: sus medios y fuentes de obtencion de cuadros; capitulo v: godoy mecenas y protector de los artistas espa\u00f1oles de su tiempo; capitulo vi: analisis del contenido de la coleccion de godoy; capitulo vii: la dispersion de la coleccion de godoy. La parte del catalogo consiste en el catalogo actualizado de la coleccion de manuel godoy  basado en el inventario de frederic quilliet de 1 de enero de 1808 y 2 suplementos al catalogo
