Su presencia en el medio inhibe las enzimas encargadas de la sintesis del antibiotico y reprime la sintesis de dichas enzimas el mutante desregulado al fosfato presenta una actividad paba-sintetasa menos reprimible por fosfato. La mayor parte de los mutantes resistentes a arseniato resultaron ser mutantes desregulados al fosfato. En tales condiciones la fosfofructoquinasa se estimula por fosfato al igual que la glucosa -6- fosfato deshidrogenasa.
