Esta glandula posee gran actividad metabolica habiendose detectado indoles (melatonina), enzimas neurotransmisores y peptidos; sus concentraciones varian en su gran mayoria de forma ciclica acopladas al fotoperiodo.  mediante radioinmunoanalisis e inmunohistoquimica se ha demostrado la presencia de somatostatina en el pineal de diversos roedores, cuyo origen era motivo de debate. La puesta a punto de una tecnica de rt-pcr permitio demostrar la presencia del transcrito en el gl.Pineal \u00abin vivo\u00bb e \u00abin vitro\u00bb estando condicionada por la edad del animal, asi como por la estacion del a\u00f1o en ambos sexos, localizandose el arnm en la periferia, de una forma local.  estudios de regulacion del pen, demuestran asimismo su semejanza con otros sistemas celulares clasicos ya descritos. Ademas de la deteccion del peptido hemos demostrado la presencia del receptor, que no parece estar condicionada ni por la edad, ni por la estacion del a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
