Este fenotipo es debido a una unica mutacion en el gen estructural que codifica para la fosfoenolpiruvato carboxiquinasa y que denominamos pck 1 este alelo es recesivo en cuanto al fenotipo no crecimiento en etanol diploides homocigotes para la mutacion (pck1\/pck1) no son capaces de esporular en acetato y si en glicerina o en acetato suplementado con una peque\u00f1a cantidad de glucosa.
