Se demuestra que el fenomeno es equivalente a una multiplicacion de frecuencia producida en el propio dispositivo activo del oscilador seguida de una sincronizacion a frecuencia fundamental.  utilizando la aproximacion de que la no linealidad que produce esta conversion de frecuencia se debe solamente a la transconductancia  se obtienen expresiones sencillas para el calculo del ancho de banda de sincronizacion con transistores bipolar y de efecto de campo. Se indican las condiciones que deben existir para optimizacion simultanea de la potencia de oscilacion y del margen de sincronizacion.
