La propia geometria viene a a\u00f1adir efectos secundarios  como el de abombamiento que aumenta la influencia debilitadora del defecto haciendolo mas critico. Por todas estas dificultades  hasta el momento se ha tenido que recurrir a ensayos a escala natural para predecir y cuantificar la importancia de estos defectos.  estos ensayos  sin embargo  resultan muy costosos. La tesis presenta la alternativa de ensayos con modelos reducidos tridimensionales y analizar las tensiones  que producen los defectos  mediante aplicacion de la fotoelasticidad. Los resultados obtenidos  corregidos para tener en cuenta la plasticidad del acero de los tubos de canalizaciones  ofrecen una aproximacion conservadora de la influencia de estos
