Se analiza teoricamente su funcionamiento mediante un modelo bidimensional  teniendo en cuenta los parametros tecnologicos de la misma  en especial la velocidad de recombinacion superficial. Se obtiene que es necesario un valor de esta menor que 300 cm\/s y un valor de longitud de difucion mayor que la anchura de la base para que la corriente de cortocircuito de la celula sea elevada. Se fabrican celulas de este tipo y se miden sus caracteristicas  evaluando a partir de ellas los diversos procesos de fabricacion.
