Por una parte  se analiza la posicion negativa de w.V. Quine  destacando las diversas etapas de su rechazo desde 1941 hasta 1977. Frente a quine  se da cuenta de la interpretacion semantica de la logica modal de s. Kripke  presentando de modo sistematico sus tesis metafisicas y semanticas que fundamentan la teoria causal del significado y el de scubrimiento empirico de la esencia. Se concluye destacando la rehabilitacion de la nocion de esencia en la filosofia angloamericana a partir del desarrollo de la logica modal como logica en la que son formulables las predicaciones
