Se encuentra un comportamiento irregular respecto de la hidratacion  a lo largo de la serie lantanida. Asimismo  se demuestra que el metodo de preparacion no influye en los aspectos termodinamicos de dicha reaccion  pero si en los aspectos cineticos de la misma. Por otra parte  se ha comprobado experimentalmente un modelo de exhaustacion superficial para describir el comportamiento de las particulas de oxido activadas a la temperatura de 823
