La fraccion de definas c sub 2 = &#8211; c sub 4 = tiene muy poca versatilidad  pero puede ser convertida por via catalitica a productos parcialmente oxidados de considerable valor en petroquimica.  el trabajo esta dividido en 4 etapas: 1) preparacion de catalizadores binarios de oxido de molildeno y oxido de uranio soportados sobre silice. 2) estudio de las fases activas de tales oxidos sobre la superficie de la silice.  con espectros de difraccion de rayos x  se estudia la posible formacion de compuestos intermedios de ambas formas oxidicas. 3) estudio de las especies activas superficiales que forma la molecula de isobuteno. 4) estudio de la actividad catalitica de cada uno de los catalizadores estudiados en la reaccion de oxidacion de isobuteno a metacroleina (precurior de plasticos)
