Se encontro que los influjos aferentes provocan la reaparicion en isofase del ritmo o y que los eventos fasicos que ocurran durante el sp se presentan temporalmente relacionados con el ritmo o  tanto en la rata como en el gato. Se concluye que el ritmo o hipocampico del sp se comporta de forma similar a como se ha descrito durante la vigilia presentando relaciones con la entrada presumiblemente sensorial y la salida motora. Se sugiere que el sp constituye un estado activo  que no tiene manifestacion comportamental durante el cual pueden estar realizandose procesos integrativos  en los que el ritmo o hipocampico jugaria
