La acumulacion de bilirrubina en el cerebro no es uniforme  sino que muestra una distribucion regional preferente  coincidente con areas del tejido nervioso da\u00f1adas en encefalopatias bilirrubinicas y asfixia perinatal  asi como con zonas de produccion de hemorragias intracerebrales durante el periodo perinatal. Por otra parte  se ha caracterizado la interaccion de la bilirrubina con la membrana sinaptosonal  que es marcadamente influida por el ph del medio  y que tiene lugar a traves de sitios de union especificos. La interaccion de la bilirrubina con la membrana sinaptosonal tiene repercusiones sobre su funcion afectandose el potencia de membrana y la respiracion sinaptosomal  asi como el transporte de
