La enzima tiene un p.M. De 67.500 y se compone de dos subunidades identicas caracterizandose como una l(+)mdh dependiente de nad elevado a +. Presenta inhibicion por oaa y l-malato dependiente del ph y de la concentracion de la coenzima en ambos casos. La inhibicion por sustrato es compatible con una inhibicion competitiva por formacion de complejos abortivos binarios e-oaa y e-malato. El mecanismo de reaccion se ajusta a un mecanismo ordenado bi-bi.
