La pervivencia de las religiones indigenas fue fuerte hasta bien entrado el siglo vii y las causas de ello fueron principalmente el aislamiento de extensas zonas  la llegada de los barbaros desde comienzos del siglo vii  la caotica situacion socioeconomica y la poca difusion del cristianismo en casi toda la peninsula asi como la imposibilidad material de la iglesia para crear una organizacion capaz de arrancar las anteriores creencias.
