Mutantes dobles en ambas proteinas son capaces de reducir eficientemente ribonucleotidos. Esta via alternativa es dependiente de glutation y es llevada a cabo por una nueva glutarredoxina denominada grx3. A su vez, mutantes dobles en tiorredoxina y glutation tambien son capaces de reducir ribonucleotidos implicando la existencia de una via alternativa de reduccion en dichos mutantes.  el acido lipoico es capaz de reducir \u00abin vitro\u00bb tanto a tiorredoxina como a glutarredoxina. La combinacion de la deficiencia en acido lipoico con las de tiorredoxina y zlutarredoxina muestra que el acido lipoico parece estar implicado en la ruta alternativa de reduccion de ribonucleotidos \u00abin vivo\u00bb. En todas las estirpes construidas el estado redox del glutation fue altamente reducido facilitando con ello el funcionamiento tanto de la ribonucleotido redurtasa como de las dos glutarredoxinas que
