La tecnica de optimizacion elegida esta basada en los algoritmos geneticos o procedimientos de busqueda del optimo de una funcion simulando los procesos de reproduccion de los seres vivos: seleccion, crecimiento y mutacion. Se ha desarrollado un modelo matematico para la determinacion del dise\u00f1o optimo de sistemas de distribucion de agua, resultado de la integracion en una unica unidad operativa de un algoritmo genetico y de un modelo de simulacion hidraulica de redes en regimen permanente.  el modelo, denominado opdisdag, permite el dise\u00f1o de sistemas con topolog\u00edas malladas y ramificadas, admite varios tipos de restricciones funcionales, asi como sistemas en los que se incluyan, ademas de tuberias, elementos tales como bombas y depositos. Opdisdag trabaja siempre con valores discretos (comerciales) de las variables de dise\u00f1o consideradas (diametros de tuberias, alturas manometricas de las bombas, etc.). La bondad del modelo opdisdag ha sido contrastada mediante su aplicacion a diversas redes ejemplo tomadas de la bibliografia especializada, comparandose los resultados obtenidos con los que
