Estas pel\u00edculas fotocr\u00f3micas al ser irradiadas con luz uv (365 nm) adquieren una fuerte coloraci\u00f3n que depender\u00e1 entre otros factores de la composici\u00f3n de la matriz ormosil o del tipo de colorante. Cuando esta irradiaci\u00f3n cesa, las pel\u00edculas sufren un proceso de aclarado t\u00e9rmico hasta recuperar su estado inicial no coloreado.  se han caracterizado las propiedades fisicoqu\u00edmicas de las matrices ormosil mediante la utilizaci\u00f3n de diferentes t\u00e9cnicas anal\u00edticas como 29si rmn, 13c rmn, ftir, tem, sem y afm. La utilizaci\u00f3n de matrices modificadas con grupos org\u00e1nicos funcionales r (tipo y cantidad relativa en la matriz) permite dise\u00f1ar la superficie interior de los poros, en los que las mol\u00e9culas fotocr\u00f3micas est\u00e1n encapsuladas, permitiendo de esta manera la modificaci\u00f3n controlada de la polaridad del entorno de poro y su morfolog\u00eda.  las propiedades fotocr\u00f3micas de las pel\u00edculas m\u00e1s importantes, como son los espectros de absorci\u00f3n y las cin\u00e9ticas de aclarado, est\u00e1n estrechamente ligadas con las caracter\u00edsticas del entorno de poro, y por tanto pueden ser controladas mediante la composici\u00f3n de la matriz y los par\u00e1metros de preparaci\u00f3n y procesado sol-gel. Hemos conseguido controlar la posici\u00f3n de la banda de absorci\u00f3n de la pel\u00edcula en estado coloreado en un rango de hasta 56 nm para un mismo colorante disperso en distintas matrices. por otra parte la cin\u00e9tica de retorno a la forma no coloreada de la mol\u00e9cula fotocr\u00f3mica se ve fuertemente acelerada (t1\/2 hasta 6 veces menores) cuando esta se encuentra en un entorno con mayor car\u00e1cter org\u00e1nico (grupos r con mayor volumen o mayor n\u00famero de grupos r).  se ha utilizado la t\u00e9cnica de elipsometr\u00eda espectrosc\u00f3pica de \u00e1ngulo variable
