Por ejemplo, en la ue se vierten 5400 toneladas al a\u00f1o de efluentes industriales de compuestos arom\u00e1ticos, los cuales presentan efectos t\u00f3xicos y bactericidas. Hoy en d\u00eda, existen varias tecnolog\u00edas que han demostrado su potencial para tratar este tipo de efluentes industriales. La mayor\u00eda de ellas est\u00e1n basadas en la oxidaci\u00f3n del contaminante org\u00e1nico, el cual es transformado en di\u00f3xido de carbono y agua o en intermedios de reacci\u00f3n menos nocivos, m\u00e1s adecuados para un tratamiento biol\u00f3gico. As\u00ed pues, la oxidaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda catal\u00edtica con aire (del ingl\u00e9s, cwao) usando carb\u00f3n activo como catalizador y la oxidaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda con aire (del ingl\u00e9s wao) sin catalizador  se han convertido en t\u00e9cnicas muy atractivas para el pretratamiento efectivo de este tipo de agua residual industrial que o bien est\u00e1 muy concentrada o bien es muy t\u00f3xica como para ser tratada directamente en una estaci\u00f3n depuradora de aguas residuales (edar) convencional. Ya que la mineralizaci\u00f3n completa del contaminante es sumamente costosa, el acoplamiento de una etapa inicial de oxidaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica con un posterior tratamiento biol\u00f3gico puede resolver este problema de contaminaci\u00f3n en una forma m\u00e1s barata y racional.Siguiendo esta premisa, el objetivo global de este trabajo fue demostrar la viabilidad t\u00e9cnica del acoplamiento de una etapa inicial de cwao con una edar municipal para tratar aguas residuales industriales fen\u00f3licas. Para esto fue necesario hallar las condiciones apropiadas en la etapa de oxidaci\u00f3n, en t\u00e9rminos de: a) destrucci\u00f3n del contaminante modelo, b) preservaci\u00f3n del catalizador en el caso de la oxidaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda catal\u00edtica con aire, c) distribuci\u00f3n de intermedios y d) aumento de la biodegradabilidad. Dichos par\u00e1metros permitieron evaluar la adecuaci\u00f3n del pretratamiento por oxidaci\u00f3n de los efluente<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
