Se han determinado las principales caracteristicas cariotipicas basicas de esta especie (numero cromosomico, numero fundamental, localizacion heterocromatina constitutiva y de regiones nor&#8230;), Si bien el analisis comparado de machos y hembras no ha permitido evidenciar heteromorfismos asociados al sexo en esta especie con las tecnicas citogeneticas empleadas. Por otro lado, se han desarrollado las tecnicas electroforeticas para realizar un analisis de diversidad genetica en poblaciones naturales gallegas y stocks cultivados de rodaballo, seleccionando un total de 35 loci enzimaticos utiles para el analisis genetico poblacional. Los resultados obtenidos muestran bajos niveles de variabilidad en rodaballo respecto a otros peces planos. Las poblaciones naturales analizadas, altamente homogeneas, exhibieron mayores niveles de diversidad genetica que los stocks cultivados, sugiriendo fenomenos de deriva genetica asociados al mantenimiento de los stocks en cultivo. Las diferencias de heterozigosis entre las muestras de piscifactoria analizadas fueron confirmadas con los resultados de un analisis de asimetria fluctuante, y sugiere posibles relaciones entre
