Los oxidos de fe pueden ser eliminados en un proceso en dos etapas, lavando el caolin con el medio de cultivo previamente obtenido por fermentacion con a.Niger. La eliminacion del fe es favorecida por altas temperaturas (60 grados c) y bajos ph(0.5). El acido oxalico presente en el medio de cultivo es el principal responsable de la lixiviacion del fe y puede ser producido en grandes cantidades por fermentacion, empleando sacarosa como sustrato tipico.  sin embargo, otros sustratos, como suero de leche, han resultado idoneos para produccion de oxalico, mejorando extraordinariamente la economia global del proceso, hecho que abre ademas una interesante via para la futura investigacion. El tratamiento del caolin con medios ricos en acido oxalico conduce a un caolin totalmente blanco, por tanto sin hierro contaminante.  el proceso de blanqueo tambien se puede realizar en una etapa, cultivando el microorganismo en presencia del mineral; esta tecnica, aunque ofrece aceptables resultados presenta varios inconvenientes, como una velocidad de disolucion de hierro mucho
