Dentro de esta ciencia multidisciplinar, de la que se espera revolucione el futuro tecnol\u00f3gico de este siglo, se enmarcan los nanotubos de carbono (cnts), unos materiales con unas propiedades sorprendentes que han despertado enormes expectativas. En el presente trabajo se aborda la preparaci\u00f3n de materiales compuestos de swnts y mwnts con mol\u00e9culas org\u00e1nicas mediante distintos procedimientos entre los que se incluye la funcionalizaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de los swnts para mejorar su dispersi\u00f3n y adhesi\u00f3n a la matriz. Asimismo, se aborda la preparaci\u00f3n de materiales compuestos cnt\/metales para su utilizaci\u00f3n en cat\u00e1lisis, almacenamiento de hidr\u00f3geno y sensores de gases. la s\u00edntesis e investigaci\u00f3n de materiales compuestos basados en matrices polim\u00e9ricas y nanotubos de carbono son actualmente temas de gran inter\u00e9s te\u00f3rico y pr\u00e1ctico en el campo de la ciencia de materiales. Desde la perspectiva de los materiales compuestos, los nanotubos de carbono pueden ser materiales ideales para reforzar matrices polim\u00e9ricas debido a su peque\u00f1o tama\u00f1o, su alto m\u00f3dulo de young en la direcci\u00f3n del eje de los nanotubos, y su alta resistencia mec\u00e1nica. La calidad de los materiales compuestos depende de la dispersi\u00f3n en la matriz polim\u00e9rica y de la adherencia de los nanotubos de carbono con la matriz. Su insolubilidad y pobre compatibilidad con el pol\u00edmero hace la dispersi\u00f3n uniforme de los cnts en la matriz polim\u00e9rica muy dif\u00edcil. De este modo, los materiales compuestos resultantes presentan falta de homogeneidad y no alcanzan las propiedades deseadas. Para superar este problema, la modificaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de la superficie de los cnts es considerada como el mejor m\u00e9todo para mejorar la solubilidad del material y su compatibilidad con la
