Se capta la angustia, la culpabilidad, su rebeli\u00f3n en contra de la tiran\u00eda, la crueldad y las injusticias; sobre todo, la lucha incesante por recobrar la libertad perdida. En las escenas de hondo dramatismo, este escritor logra que la tristeza y el dolor lleguen al lector, haci\u00e9ndolo sentir parte integrante de la trama. No s\u00f3lo se dedic\u00f3 a escribir piezas teatrales, sino que cultiv\u00f3, a su vez, el \u00e1mbito de la teor\u00eda del  teatro. Debido a la innovaci\u00f3n teatral propuesta por sastre, resulta dif\u00edcil no s\u00f3lo un estudio cr\u00edtico uniforme de sus obras, sino tambi\u00e9n la clasificaci\u00f3n de \u00e9sta. Varios estudiosos y eruditos han propuesto diferentes clasificaciones. Y es que este autor hace gala de su ingenio creador presentando diferentes temas, atm\u00f3sferas, utilizando diversos recursos estil\u00edsticos e innovaciones en su teatro. Pero aunque parezcan completamente distintas y de temas tan diversos, las obras de este dramaturgo poseen una gran unidad entre s\u00ed porque en cada una de ellas est\u00e1 el tema fundamental que las une: la tiran\u00eda, la sublevaci\u00f3n, la denuncia social, la necesidad de la revoluci\u00f3n. se reflejan los problemas que afligen al ser humano como la miseria, el hambre, la tortura, la explotaci\u00f3n del hombre, la degradaci\u00f3n moral, el horror de una posible tercera guerra mundial o la angustia de un estallido at\u00f3mica. Los personajes sastrenianos viven en una continua agon\u00eda, es el sentido tr\u00e1gico de la existencia. Son seres humanos que se encuentran en un callej\u00f3n sin salida. las obras primeras son como la semilla que ha ido germinando hasta ofrecer un fruto jugoso y maduro, rompiendo la tradici\u00f3n del teatro hist\u00f3rico convencional espa\u00f1ol, que se limitaba a la interceptaci\u00f3n fiel a la cr\u00f3nica. Utiliza documentos, personajes, discursos y sermones hist\u00f3ricos, rompe con el plano hist\u00f3rico desde el principio.
