En esta tesis se ha realizado un estudio detallado de los genes implicados en las rutas de degradaci\u00f3n de compuestos arom\u00e1ticos presentes en el genoma de la cepa kt2440 que permiti\u00f3 determinar el potencial catab\u00f3lico global de la bacteria frente a este tipo de compuestos. En ese sentido, se identificaron cinco rutas centrales de degradaci\u00f3n, correspondientes a los metabolitos protocatecuato (genes pca), catecol (genes cat), fenilacetato (genes pha), homogentisato (genes hmg) y galato (genes gal). Adem\u00e1s, se identificaron los genes que codifican las rutas perif\u00e9ricas de degradaci\u00f3n de p-hidroxibenzoato, benzoato, compuestos fenilpropenopides, quinato, feniletilamina, fenilalcanoatos, fenilacetaldeh\u00eddo, fenilalanina y tirosina. un resultado adicional del an\u00e1lisis fue la identificaci\u00f3n de una nueva ruta de degradaci\u00f3n del \u00e1cido nicot\u00ednico (genes nic), un compuesto arom\u00e1tico n-heterociclo, que en su degradaci\u00f3n genera metabolitos con elevada actividad biol\u00f3gica empleados en la s\u00edntesis de f\u00e1rmacos.  la caracterizaci\u00f3n molecular de los genes nic permiti\u00f3 la identificaci\u00f3n de nuevas enzimas que participan en su mineralizaci\u00f3n. En una primera etapa participa  una nicotinato hidroxilasa (nicab), una hidroxilasa dependiente de molibdeno que no hab\u00eda sido caracterizada previamente, y que transforma el \u00e1cidonicot\u00ednico en \u00e1cido 6-hidroxinicot\u00ednico que es empleado en la s\u00edntesis de insecticidas.  en una segunda etapa, una 6-hidroxinicotinato hidroxilasa (nicc) transforma el \u00e1cido 6-hidroxinicot\u00ednico en el intermediario central 2,5-dihidroxipiridina, que es empleado en la s\u00edntesis del \u00e1cido aminolevul\u00ednico precursor de la s\u00edntesis de compuestos antitumorales.
