La difracci\u00f3n de electrones de baja energ\u00eda (leed son sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) es una de las t\u00e9cnicas experimentales m\u00e1s empleadas en la caracterizaci\u00f3n estructural de superficies.  esta tesis consta de varias contribuciones novedosas a la teor\u00eda de leed en tres apartados:  (i) descripci\u00f3n rigurosa de adsorbatos moleculares mediante mediante un formalismo de matriz-t molecular,  (ii) desarrollo de un algoritmo global de b\u00fasqueda direccionada de estructuras llamado \u00aboptimizaci\u00f3n simult\u00e1nea\u00bb, y  (iii) recuperaci\u00f3n de fase en leed y elaboraci\u00f3n de m\u00e9todos directos alternativos a la holograf\u00eda y la funci\u00f3n de patterson.  paralelamente, se ha determinado la estructura de la superficie tio2(110)-1&#215;2,
