La tesis se organiza en siete capitulos.  el primero esta dedicado a plantear el concepto de genero literario desde una consideracion pragmatica. El segundo tiene dos objetivos: a) tratar brevemente las relaciones entre la narracion histrocia y la narracion ficcional para justificar una vision de la novela historica como forma de actualizacion de esa larga tradicion de intercambios entre historia y novela; b) describir la trayectoria diacronica del genero desde scott hasta la actualidad, con especial atencion a la tradicion hispanica.  el tercer capitulo propone una poetica del genero. Los capitulos cuatro, cinco, seis y siete contienen analisis criticos de el se\u00f1or de bembibre (1844); se la de los tristes destinos, de la corte de los milagros y
