Se pretende hacer una s\u00edntesis del \u00abper\u00edodo de la imprenta manual\u00bb, que organice un cuerpo de conocimientos y de herramientas disciplinares independientes de la inmediatez productiva y material del oficio, pero que pueda aportar aquellas directrices a este per\u00edodo, que permita establecer relaciones entre los per\u00edodos.     la tipograf\u00eda se considera como un medio, desde la noci\u00f3n de medida. Para el dise\u00f1o, la tipograf\u00eda en plomo es un punto de referencia, un patr\u00f3n. En esta condici\u00f3n, contiene todo el abanico de dimensiones de medida, de evaluaci\u00f3n, o sea, desde las magnitudes f\u00edsicas, a las de relaci\u00f3n, y a las de \u00edndole moral. En t\u00e9rminos concretos, todos estos valores se encuentran incorporados en las piezas tipogr\u00e1ficos. Ello implica abrir, o resituar, la visi\u00f3n: la tesis observa las magnitudes, la media, bajo esta multiplicidad de aspectos, como filtro y objeto de estudio en un marco amplio, general.     la tipograf\u00eda se entiende como uno de los procesos de formalizaci\u00f3n del lenguaje verbal escrito, un proceso compuesto por distintas fases, que se caracterizan por una configuraci\u00f3n gr\u00e1fica, un instrumental, y unas finalidades concretas. Por ello, se ha desarrollado una nueva sistem\u00e1tica espec\u00edfica, en la que la tipograf\u00eda es sujeto y gu\u00eda de la investigaci\u00f3n.     las fuentes b\u00e1sicas del estudio son los manuales y tratados de tipograf\u00eda que se han publicado a lo largo de los siglos, y las muestras y cat\u00e1logos tipogr\u00e1ficos, as\u00ed como obras y documentos coet\u00e1neos que se relacionan con los anteriores, ya se han publicados o tan s\u00f3lo proyectados.
