En los a\u00f1os finales del siglo xvi se detectan en la ciudad rasgos que apuntan hacia un cambio en la concepcion arquitectonica, que lleva a la busqueda del equilibrio a traves de las formas desornamentadas y por tanto al abandono progresivo de la decoracion renacentista. Este nuevo periodo presenta, en el caso compostelano, unas caracteristicas propias gracias a la confluencia de tres talleres: el trasmerano, el portugues y el andaluz.
