Si bi\u00e9n no se conoce la composici\u00f3n exacta del receptor nativo, se piensa en la posible coexistencia de receptores alfa3beta4 y de receptores alfa7.  hemos empleado para ello registros electrofisiol\u00f3gicos mediante t\u00e9cnicas de fijaci\u00f3n de voltaje en su configuraci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lula entera, registros electrofisiol\u00f3gicos en ovocitos de xenopus laevis, as\u00ed como t\u00e9cnicas de inmunocitoqu\u00edmica, inmunotransferencia y autorradiograf\u00eda.  empleando t\u00e9cnicas de registro electrofisiol\u00f3gico, hemos observado que las corrientes i\u00f3nicas de entrada a trav\u00e9s del nachr presentan cin\u00e9tica similar con todos los agonistas no selectivos utilizados, siendo \u00e9sta dependiente de la concentraci\u00f3n de agonista utilizada. Acetilcolina (ach), dimetilfenilpiperazinio (dmpp) y epibatidina mostraron una eficacia similar, siendo la amplitud de la corriente generada por estos agonistas el doble de la observada con nicotina y siendo su potencia relativa epibatidina mayor que dmpp mayor que nicotina mayor que ach. Cuando se aplic\u00f3 el agonista selectivo para los receptores alfa3beta4 citisina, se obtuvo una corriente de amplitud muy inferior a la obtenida con el agonista fisiol\u00f3gico ach. De forma similar, los agonistas selectivos para el receptor alfa7, colina, 4-oh-gts21 y ar-r17779 tampoco produjeron corrientes significativas o no produjeron ning\u00fan tipo de corriente en c\u00e9lulas cromafines bovinas mientras que en ovocitos de xenopus laevis que expresaban el receptor alfa7 bovino s\u00ed que produjeron corrientes similares a las inducidas por ach (100 micromolar).
