Este agujero se produce por la retracci\u00f3n de la banda germinal, que deja como unica membrana que recubre al  embri\u00f3n dorsalmente a la amnioserosa. a los cambios coordinados que se producen en la forma de las c\u00e9lulas de la epidermis  y la amnioserosa para cerrar el agujero y generar una epidermis dorsal continua se conoce por el nombre de cierre dorsal.  el cierre dorsal implica: una polarizaci\u00f3n  plana en las c\u00e9lulas m\u00e1s dorsales de la epidermis lateral, cambios en las c\u00e9lulas de la amnioserosa que se contraen e  invaginan y la formaci\u00f3n de un aparato contr\u00e1ctil de actomiosina en la interfase entre  la amnioserosa y las c\u00e9lulas  epidermicas. Para cerrar el agujero, las celulas epidermicas se alargan, el  aparato contr\u00e1ctil tira de ellas y las c\u00e9lulas de la amnioserosa se contraen e invaginan.  algunos genes implicados en el cierre dorsal tambjen estan implicados en el establecimiento de la polaridad celular plana  (pcp) en tejidos adultos, como son jun, basket y flamingo. En el ojo de drosophila, la pcp esta reflejada en  la distribuci\u00f3n ordenada de los omatidios con respecto a una l\u00ednea ecuatorial imaginaria (el ecuador). Los defectos de polaridad se manifiestan por la perdida de la quiralidad de los omatidios y por una rotaci\u00f3n err\u00f3nea de los mismos independientemente de su posici\u00f3n.  En el ala de drosophila la pcp se manifiesta porque  cada c\u00e9lula produce un pelo que apunta hacia la parte distal de la misma.
