En la almeja fina (ruditapes decussatus) se detectaron distintos parasitos y alteraciones patologicas, destacando entre ellos la presencia de perkinsus atlanticus, celulas neoplasicas y la enfermedad del anillo marron causada por la bacteria vibrio pl.  por lo que respecta a los mecanismos de defensa, en moluscos se conoce la existencia de mecanismos de defensa celular (fagocitosis, encapsulacion, leucocitosis) y mecanismos de defensa humoral interrelacionados entre si.  la defensa celular es llevada a cabo por los hemocitos, celulas transportadas por la hemolinfa a traves de un sistema circulatorio abierto en la almeja se caracterizaron 2 tipos hemocitarios: granulocitos e hialinocitos. Dentro de los granulocitos se distinguieron 3 subpoblaciones: granulocitos acidofilos, basofilos y mixtos. Se detecto la presencia de dedeterminados enzimas hidroliticos en los hemocitos, tal es el caso de la fosfatasa acida cuya localizacion en los granulos fue observada al me.
