En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ha aumentado considerablemente el inter\u00e9s en evaluar la presencia de estos compuestos en fuentes de abastecimiento de agua debido a su elevada toxicidad y, en consecuencia, al riesgo que suponen para la salud p\u00fablica.     atendiendo a estas consideraciones, el presente estudio se ha planteado en base a dos objetivos principales. En primer lugar, nos propusimos establecer una metodolog\u00eda anal\u00edtica para la identificaci\u00f3n y cuantificaci\u00f3n de microcistinas en muestras de agua y para ello, en una primera fase, evaluamos diversos m\u00e9todos para la extracci\u00f3n de las microcistinas contenidas en el interior de las c\u00e9lulas de cianobacteria (microcistinta intracelulares) con el fin de proponer un m\u00e9todo que permitiera el an\u00e1lisis de un amplio n\u00famero de microcistinas intracelulares. Adem\u00e1s, tambi\u00e9n nos planteamos desarrollar un m\u00e9todo de an\u00e1lisis selectivo y sensible para la determinaci\u00f3n e identificaci\u00f3n de las diferentes microcistinas presentes en muestras de agua. Con esta finalidad, se opt\u00f3 por utilizar la cormatograf\u00eda de l\u00edquidos acoplada a la espectrometr\u00eda de masas.     el segundo objetivo ha sido estudiar la presencia de microcistinas en diferentes aguas superficiales utilizadas habitualmente como fuentes para la obtenci\u00f3n de agua potable con el fin de evaluar la calidad de las aguas y proporcionar informaci\u00f3n sobre la situaci\u00f3n real en nuestro pa\u00eds.
