La existencia dos canales acuosos, uno relacionado con el funcionamiento de tom y otro con el de tim23, nos ha llevado a plantear la hip\u00f3tesis de que tambi\u00e9n existiera una actividad de canal asociada a tim22, el complejo responsable no del transporte, sino de la inserci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas multi\u00f3picas en la membrana interna mitocondrial. Aplicando t\u00e9cnicas de pinzamiento de voltaje directamente sobre mitoplastos (mitocondrias desprovistas de membrana externa) y de membranas internas reconstituidas en liposomas, hemos determinado por primera vez las condiciones para la inducci\u00f3n de este canal. Sus caracter\u00edsticas electrofisiol\u00f3gicas son muy semejantes alas descritas anteriormente para tom y tim23, pero su distinci\u00f3n es posible gracias al empleo de p\u00e9ptidos se\u00f1al espec\u00edficos. el canal de tim22 est\u00e1 constituido por dos poros id\u00e9nticos, cuya apertura es cooperativa. El radio de cada uno de esos poros es lo suficientemente grande como para acomodar hasta dos h\u00e9lices transmembrana. La disecci\u00f3n molecular del complejo tim22 combinada con el empleo de t\u00e9cnicas electrofisiol\u00f3gicas y bioqu\u00edmicas nos ha permitido determinar el papel de cada uno de los componentes del complejo en la estructura y funcionamiento de su canal. As\u00ed, hemos determinado que la prote\u00edna tim 54 no participa ni en la estructura ni en el funcionamiento del canal. Por su parte, tim22 es el componente esencial del canal, mientras que tim 18 funcionar\u00eda como un receptor delas secuencias se\u00f1al internas.
