Tomato (p. S. Tomato) es una de las enfermedades m\u00e1s devastadoras del cultivo del tomate. En este trabajo se demuestra que la sola inhibici\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n del gen  ep5c, que codifica una peroxidasa cati\u00f3nica extracelular, es suficiente para conferir una marcada resistencia a p.S. Tomato. Esta inhibici\u00f3n encontrada en las plantas de tomate produce una resistencia que no requiere la activaci\u00f3n de las rutas de defensa descritas hasta ahora, controladas por el \u00e1cido salic\u00edlico y el \u00e1cido jasm\u00f3nico. As\u00ed, la inhibici\u00f3n de este gen constituye una nueva herramienta gen\u00e9tica para obtener plantas transg\u00e9nicas resistentes a esta enfermedad. La temprana inducci\u00f3n del gen ep5c est\u00e1 mediada por el h2o2, una especie reactiva de ox\u00edgeno generada durante el curso de u interacciones planta-pat\u00f3geno. Los mecanismos que controlan la resistencia de las plantas a pat\u00f3genos necrotrofos constituye uno de los aspectos menos estudiados en la actualidad. La b\u00fasqueda de nuevos componentes gen\u00e9ticos que participan en la cascada de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de las plantas frente a pat\u00f3genos constituye uno de los retos de la biolog\u00eda molecular moderna. En este trabajo llevamos a cabo un escrutinio, utilizando plantas transg\u00e9nicas de arabidopsis thaliana portadoras del gen de la b-glucoronidasa (gus) como gen marcador bajo el control del promotor del gen ep5c, en busca de mutantes alterados en la expresi\u00f3n de dicho gen. En el presente trabajo presentamos la identificaci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n de uno de los mutantes, en concreto el mutante ocp3 (overexpressor of cationic peroxidase 3), el cual presenta expresi\u00f3n constitutiva del gen gus.
