El an\u00e1lisis parte de una delimitaci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica entre tiempo\/temporalidad, pasado\/tradici\u00f3n, aplicada a un corpus de textos en el que antonio machado es la voz principal, as\u00ed como de una concepci\u00f3n del modernismo entendido como un movimiento supranacional y pluriling\u00ed\u00bc\u00edstico. Con la finalidad de aprehender la propuesta de pasado literario en machado se ha atendido a una doble vertiente: la lectura del pasado derivada de la construcci\u00f3n de la naci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola en el siglo xix y un recorrido por la reformulaci\u00f3n de la tr\u00edada temporal en distintos \u00e1mbitos del saber, como la filosof\u00eda, la filosof\u00eda de la historia y el discurso literario. Este trasfondo te\u00f3rico se ha aplicado al estudio de las obras en prosa de antonio machado. Su propuesta de pasado literario se compar\u00f3 al modelo de tradici\u00f3n defendido por t. S. Eliot, tanto en sus estudios cr\u00edticos como en dos de sus obras po\u00e9ticas, la tierra bald\u00eda y cuatro cuartetos.
