Mediante el estudio in vitro determinamos que el virus penetra en la celula mediante un proceso de entrada directo, replicando posteriormente en el interior de viroplasmas citoplasmaticos. En la salida al exterior de la celula participan vesiculas citoplasmaticas que lo transportan proximo a la membrana plasmatica. Transcripcion y traduccion parecen simultanea. El estudio in vivo muestra que la entrada del virus en el rodaballo ocurre via oral o a traves de las agallas, dispersandose por todo el organismo en el interior de una celula sanguinea. El organo diana es el ri\u00f1on. Estres o la infeccion simultanea con un agente bacteriano favorecen la replicacion viral. El trv es altamente estable en el medio ambiente. El isopropanol y la formamida son activos en la reduccion de la infectividad viral.
