Fundamentales en estos procesos son las hormonas vegetales o fithormonas. En este grupo se incluyen las auxinas, las citoquininas, las giberelinas, el \u00e1cido jasm\u00f3nico, el etileno y los brasinoesteroides. Los brasinoesteroides (brs) se agrupan en lo que se conoce como la sexta clase de hormonas vegetales y son las \u00fanicas fitohormonas que poseen una estructura esteroidal. Fueron descubiertas en 1979 cuando un grupo de cient\u00edficos de estados unidos buscaban nuevos extractos vegetales con propiedades reguladoras del crecimiento de las plantas. Con el transcuros del tiempo se encontr\u00f3 que los brasinoesteroides no solo promov\u00edan el crecimiento vegetal; ellos tambi\u00e9n producen cierta protecci\u00f3n al tejido vegetal frenta a diferentes tipos de estr\u00e9s ambiental. A partir del descubrimiento de la brasin\u00f3lida una gran cantidad de brasinoesteroides naturales se aislaron y caracterizaron completamente haciendo uso de m\u00e9todos cromatogr\u00e1ficos y espectrosc\u00f3picos cada vez m\u00e1s avanzados. Los brasinoesteroides naturales constituyen en la actualidad una familia de m\u00e1s de 60 compuestos. Tanto los braisinoesteroides naturales como sus intermediarios de bios\u00edntesis se encuentran presentes en cantidades muy peque\u00f1as en los tejidos vegetales. El objetivo de estas investigaciones ha sido no solo desarrollar m\u00e9todoas m\u00e1s eficaces y econ\u00f3micos de s\u00edntesis, si no ampliar los estudios relacionados con sus efectos fisiol\u00f3gicos, sus mecanismo de acci\u00f3n, recepci\u00f3n y transporte su relaci\u00f3n estructura qu\u00edmica-actividad biol\u00f3gica y sus aplicaciones
