Para ello, la clasificaci\u00f3n debe hacerse atendiendo al criterio de misma apariencia al ojo humano, el cual est\u00e1 muy relacionado con el color y su distribuci\u00f3n dentro de la pieza, como resultado se logra una producci\u00f3n agrupada en lotes o categor\u00edas, donde cada categor\u00eda es diferente de otra pero cada una de ellas es internamente uniforme en apariencia visual. La dificultad de desarrollar algoritmos de an\u00e1lisis de color para la clasificaci\u00f3n de piezas planas radica en la selecci\u00f3n de las caracter\u00edsticas que definen la calidad del producto y en la medici\u00f3n de estos par\u00e1metros cuando se intenta alcanzar un compromiso entre precisi\u00f3n, eficiencia y estabilidad en las medidas. Para determinar dichas caracter\u00edsticas y las fuentes de error producidas por los dispositivos que forma el sistema se realiza un estudio de las propiedades caracter\u00edsticas utilizadas por el operario humano en el proceso de clasificaci\u00f3n, de las propiedades de las superficies radiantes que se van clasificar y de las caracter\u00edsticas   del sistema de visi\u00f3n que va a capturar la informaci\u00f3n, para establecer posteriormente los m\u00e9todos que permiten una clasificaci\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea desde el punto de vista de la apariencia visual. As\u00ed, para una correcta clasificaci\u00f3n es necesario establecer un m\u00e9todo de constancia de color que permite que las medidas de color sean estables en el tiempo e independientes a cambios en el sistema, ya sean producidos por variaciones del color del iluminante, cambios de temperatura, o por cualquier otra causa, un m\u00e9todo de segmentaci\u00f3n que reduce el n\u00famero de colores manteniendo la apariencia visual de la superficie y una distancia y un clasificador basado en distancias que permita medir el grado de parecido seg\u00fan su apariencia visual.  the aim of this thesis is to provide a set of methods intended for classifying polished flat surfaces taking into account their visual appearance. In order to achieve this, classification has to be carried out according to the criterion of the same appearance to the human eye. This criterion is closely related to the color of the surface and its distribution over the piece that is being classified. The result of this classification is a production of pieces grouped in batchs or categories, where each category is different from any other, and inside each category pieces are uniform in terms of visual appearance. The difficulty of designing color analysis algorithms to classify flat pieces lies in the selection of the characteristics that define the quality of the product, and in the measurement of these parameters when a trade-off betvfeen precisi\u00f3n, efficiency, and stability of the measurements has to be made. In order to determine those characteristics and the sources of error caused by the devices that form the system, various parts of the classification system are analysed. Firstly, the cnaracteristic properties used by the human operator in the classification process are examined. Secondly, the properties of the flat surfaces that are going to be classified are considered. Finally, the visi\u00f3n system that is going to capture the information is studied in detail. These analyses will establish the bases for designing the methods to classify the aforementioned surfaces homogeneously as far as the visual appearance is concerned. Ln this way, in order to achieve a correct classification is necessary to establish: a method of color constancy able to provide color measurements stable over the time and independent from changes in the system, regardless of whether these changes have been caused by variations in the color of the illuminant, by changes in the temperature, or by any other cause; a method of segmentation able to reduce the number of colors whereas the visual appearance of the surface remains unchanged; and a distance and a classificator based on distances able to measure the degree of simil arity betwween
