Dichos romances ser presentan transcritos, clasificados y ordenados combinando criterios literarios y musicales. El autor realiza un estuido de las melod\u00edas en el que presta especial atenci\u00f3n a los sistemas mel\u00f3dicos modales y tonales, sistemas en evoluci\u00f3n, ambiguos y dudosos, procedimientos mel\u00f3dicos excepcionales, estructuras mel\u00f3dicas, organizaci\u00f3n r\u00edtmica, versiones, variantes mel\u00f3dicas y relaci\u00f3n entre los textos y la m\u00fasica. Tambi\u00e9n trata otros elementos mel\u00f3dicos como son los estilos del canto, las direcciones mel\u00f3dicas, \u00e1mbitos mel\u00f3dicos, interv\u00e1lica, comienzos de las melod\u00edas y cadencias. Al final de la parte documental presenta varios \u00edndices (anal\u00edtico de romances, de temas, primeros versos, informantes y localidades) que son muy \u00fatiles para la consulta de los romances
