El glutati\u00f3n (gsh) ha sido descrito durante largo tiempo solamente como un reactivo defensivo contra la acci\u00f3n t\u00f3xica de xenobi\u00f3ticos y como un prototipo antioxidante. Sin embargo, estudios m\u00e1s recientes han indicado tambi\u00e9n la capacidad del gsh -y de sus catabolitos- de promover procesos oxidativos, pro la participaci\u00f3n en reacciones mediadas por iones met\u00e1licos finalmente llevando a la formaci\u00f3n de especies reactivas de ox\u00edgeno y radicales libres, mostrando su papel como prooxidante. Las glutati\u00f3n s-transferasas (gsts) son una familia de enzimas dim\u00e9rica de detoxificaci\u00f3n de fase ii, enzimas que catalizan la transferencia o conjugaci\u00f3n del gsh a una larga variedad de compuestos electrof\u00edlicos. Numerosos estudios han relacionado polimorfismos gen\u00e9ticos en las gsts con la aparici\u00f3n de distintas enfermedades como c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n, c\u00e1ncer de mama, c\u00e1ncer colorrectal o enfermedades neurodegenerativas. En este estudio hemos querido estudiar el polimorfismo de las subclases gsta1, gstm1, gstm3, gstt1 y gstp1 con el c\u00e1ncer colorrectal, para llegar a saber si estas enzimas promueven o previenen la aparici\u00f3n de dicha enfermedad.
