El polivinil alcohol es un polimero de interesantes propiedades: no t\u00f3xico, biodegradable y no inflamable; pero por cada tonelada de pol\u00edmero obtenido la reacci\u00f3n principal produce una tonelada y media de residuo. la tesis es consecuencia de la pregunta de una industria espa\u00f1ola para revalorizar dicho residuo a un producto comercializable y al mismo tiempo recuperar materia prima para la sintesis de m\u00e1s pol\u00edmero. la alternativa econ\u00f3micamente m\u00e1s ventajosa es la transesterificaci\u00f3n con etanol pero no se usa industrialmente debido a la elevada cantidad de azeotropos que dificultan la separaci\u00f3n de los productos de reacic\u00f3n. En la tesis se eval\u00faan las alternativas y se propone y estudia un original sistema de destilaci\u00f3n por cambio de presi\u00f3n reactivo que consigue con s\u00f3lo dos columnas llevar cabo la reacci\u00f3n y recuperar los productos separados con una conversi\u00f3n total de los reactivos. Para alcanzar el objetivo propuesto se determinan los equilibrios l\u00edquido vapor para las mezclas de los compuestos; metanol, etanol, acetato de metilo y acetato de etilo. En el procedimiento de c\u00e1lculo se utiliza el an\u00e1lisis infinito\/infinito para el estudio de las corrientes entre las unidades, un original c\u00e1lculo plato a plato del centro de columno hasta el destilado y pie para relacionar el freflujo con el n\u00famero de plastos y una optimizaci\u00f3n de las variables estudiadas mediante proporcionalidades.
