Usando una aproximaci\u00f3n de gen\u00f3mica comparativa, los genes se identificaron como putativas proteinas hidrolasas similares a las dehalogenasas halo\u00e1cidas. Atgpp1 (gi 18416631) y atgpp2 (gi 18423981), codifican prote\u00ednas que comparten un 95% de identidad, con una mw predecida de 33 y 27 kda y un pi de 7.8 y 5.6 respectivamente. Ambas isoformas tienen alta especificidad por dl-glicerol-3-fosfato, ph \u00f3ptimo a 7.0, y una km en el rango de 3.5-5.2 mm. Atgpp1 y atgpp2 se expresan a lo largo del desarrollo en todos los \u00f3rganos de la planta, mayormente en silicuas, y la expresi\u00f3n no se ve afectada por estr\u00e9s osm\u00f3tico, i\u00f3nico u oxidativo. Unido al extremo n-terminal de atgpp1 existe un putativo p\u00e9ptido de tr\u00e1nsito al cloroplasto ctp, atgpp2 que carece de esta se\u00f1al se predice como citos\u00f3lica; esta compartimentaci\u00f3n fu\u00e9 confirmada mediante un fraccionamiento subcelular. El estudio de localizaci\u00f3n inmunohistoqu\u00edmica, usando anticuerpos anti-atgpp2, indica que las prote\u00ednas atgpp est\u00e1n principalmente localizadas en los meristemos de flores inmaduras y en los elementos vasculares de la ra\u00edz, el tallo, las hojas, las sil\u00edcuas y el embri\u00f3n en desarrollo, concretamente en el citosol al igual que en los cloroplastos de distintos tipos celulares de arabidopsis, siendo llamativa la particular localizaci\u00f3n en las c\u00e9lulas acompa\u00f1antes del tejido floem\u00e1tico. Las plantas transg\u00e9nicas de arabidopsis, que sobreexpresan atgpp2, presentan una actividad fosfatasa alterada y una tolerancia mejorada al estr\u00e9s salino, osm\u00f3tico y
