Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, el nuevo gen clonado se denomin\u00f3 pgal (penicillium g-protein alpha subunit).  Para la caracterizaci\u00f3n del papel del gen pgal se desarrollaron vario stipos d e modificaciones en el genpgal en las cepas nrrl 1951 y wiss54-1255. Se gener\u00f3 la activaci\u00f3n e inactivaci\u00f3n constituttiva de la subunidad pgal mediante la incorporaci\u00f3n de los alelos dominantes pgalg42r y pgalg203r, respectivamente. La expresi\u00f3n de pgal ocurri\u00f3 de manera diferencial durante el crecimiento de p. Chr ysogenum en medio s\u00f3lido, siendo menor al 5\u00c2\u00ba d\u00eda cuando se encuentra en pleno p roceso conidiog\u00e9nico. Se observ\u00f3 una clara relaci\u00f3n positiva entre la subunidad  pgal y la producci\u00f3n de amp c\u00edclico en p. Chrysogenum y p. Roqueforti, lo que_ supone una regulaci\u00f3n positiva, ya sea de manera directa o indirecta, de la ade nilato ciclasa. Experimentos demostraron que pgal est\u00e1 implicada en los mecanismos sensores tempranos que inducen la germinaci\u00f3n conidial respondiendo al est\u00edmulo inductor de las fuentes de carono, siendo necesaria, m\u00e1s no indispensable, en el desarrollo adecuado del programa germinativo en p. Chrysogenum. Al observar el efecto fenot\u00edpico de la subunidad pgal, se demostr\u00f3 que esta act\u00faa como_un importante represor del programa conidiog\u00e9nico en p. Chrysogenum y p. Roqueforti, controlando la expresi\u00f3n de los genes que hacen parte de la ruta reguladora central en p. Chrysogenum y p. Roqueforti es en gran medida llevada a cabo por mecanismos independientes del amp c\u00edclico.
