Corsoy) son capaces de tolerar altas concentraciones de cuso4 (5-50 \u00c2\u00b5m). En estas condiciones las c\u00e9lulas acumulan altos niveles de este metal y tienen una tasa de crecimiento similar al de las c\u00e9lulas control en condiciones de luz normal (65 \u00c2\u00b5e m-2 s-1) y 2,5 &#8211; 3 veces m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido en condiciones de luz limitante (30 \u00c2\u00b5e m-2 s-1). Las c\u00e9lulas adaptadas al exceso de cu se caracterizan por tener un mayor contenido de clorofila, un mayor apilamiento (grana) de la membrana tilacoidal, y una mayor actividad fotosint\u00e9tica. Los resultados indicaron que el cu desempe\u00f1a un papel positivo y espec\u00edfico en la fotos\u00edntesis y en particular en la estructura y en la funci\u00f3n del fotosistema ii. el estudio comparado de la respuesta de las suspensiones celulares ante el estr\u00e9s por exceso de 10 \u00c2\u00b5m cuso4 a corto (c\u00e9lulas estresadas) y largo plazo (c\u00e9lulas adaptadas) indic\u00f3 que aunque la organizaci\u00f3n celular de estas c\u00e9lulas en general es similar a la de las c\u00e9lulas control, con caracter\u00edsticas estructurales espec\u00edficas de c\u00e9lulas del mes\u00f3filo de hojas j\u00f3venes, tambi\u00e9n presentan ciertas modificaciones en el cloroplasto y en la vacuola que son dependientes del tiempo de exposici\u00f3n al metal. As\u00ed, tras un tratamiento con exceso de cuso4 de 21 d\u00edas los cloroplastos de las c\u00e9lulas estresadas aparecen de menor tama\u00f1o, m\u00e1s redondeados y m\u00e1s numerosos, y con un contenido de almid\u00f3n fuertemente reducido. En estas condiciones tambi\u00e9n se observan unos dep\u00f3sitos extracelulares asociados a la pared celular con alto contenido en cu y una inducci\u00f3n de la s\u00edntesis de citrato y malato. Estos cambios acompa\u00f1an por tanto a una respuesta al estr\u00e9s por cu a corto plazo.
