Una de las fuentes m\u00e1s importantes en la b\u00fasqueda de mol\u00e9culas bioactivas son las plantas que crecen en los bosques tropicales. As\u00ed, am\u00e9rica latina es depositaria de un tesoro farmac\u00e9utico, ya que aproximadamente el 60% de las especies vegetales de los bosques tropicales se encuentran localizados desde el centro de m\u00e9xico hasta la parte central de am\u00e9rica del sur. Adem\u00e1s de esta riqueza, am\u00e9rica latina posee una gran diversidad etnobot\u00e1nica, basada en la interacci\u00f3n de la diversidad biol\u00f3gica y cultural, lo que se manifiesta en el tan extendido uso tradicional de las plantas con fines medicinales por diferentes grupos \u00e9tnicos americanos. El presente trabajo forma parte de un proyecto de estudio de la flora medicinal iberoamericana, el cual est\u00e1 dirigido a la b\u00fasqueda de nuevos metabolitos secundarios con actividad biol\u00f3gica centrado en especies de la familia celastraceae. Las investigaciones han sido dirigidas hacia esta familia en particular, bas\u00e1ndose en antecedentes bibliogr\u00e1ficos que describen productos con actividad citot\u00f3xica, antimicrobiana, antiviral, inmunosupresora, inhibidora de la activaci\u00f3n del virus epstein-barr, revertidora de la multirresistencia a f\u00e1rmacos, antialimentaria e insecticida, entre otras. los objetivos concretados durante el desarrollo del trabajo se describen a continuaci\u00f3n: revisi\u00f3n de la clasificaci\u00f3n taxon\u00f3mica de la familia celastraceae. revisi\u00f3n bibliogr\u00e1fica de
