Estes sistemas poden operar con cargas m\u00e1is elevadas (plantas m\u00e1is compactas) e o mesmo tempo desenrolar unha biomasa, agregada en forma de gr\u00e1nulos, con boas propiedades de sedimentabilidade, o que posibilita a s\u00faa f\u00e1cil separaci\u00f3n no reactor e constit\u00fae unha vantaxe adicional fronte os sistemas convencionais de lamas activas. Os sistemas granulares producen efluentes de boa calidade, en termos de contido en materia org\u00e1nica e nitr\u00f3xeno, pero con concentraci\u00f3ns de s\u00f3lidos en suspensi\u00f3n que non se axustar\u00edan os requirimentos m\u00e1is estrictos (maiores de 75 mg\/l).Para reducir a concentraci\u00f3n de s\u00f3lidos en suspensi\u00f3n no efluente \u00f3s valores desexados, p\u00f3dense empregar  membranas como sistema de postratamento. na presente tese est\u00fadianse as condici\u00f3ns hidrodin\u00e1micas m\u00e1is favorables para desenrolar gr\u00e1nulos aerobios e tam\u00e9n o efecto da composici\u00f3n da auga residual na formaci\u00f3n de ditos gr\u00e1nulos. O desenrolo e aplicaci\u00f3n de sistemas granulares levarase a cabo tanto con  augas residuais caracterizadas pola s\u00faa alta relaci\u00f3n carbono\/nitr\u00f3xeno (c\/n), mediante os procesos de nitrificaci\u00f3n-desnitrificaci\u00f3n como tam\u00e9n en augas con baixa relaci\u00f3n c\/n, usando neste \u00faltimo caso o proceso avanzado de oxidaci\u00f3n anaerobia de amonio (anammox). Ensaiaranse diferentes condici\u00f3ns operacionais para as\u00ed maximizar as eficacias de eliminaci\u00f3n de materia org\u00e1nica e nitr\u00f3xeno para cada tipo de auga residual empregada.
