El complejo hetrotrimerico galpha betta gamma es activado por receptores gpcrs (g protein coupled receptors), que responden a senales extracelulares que comprenden desde est\u00edmulos mec\u00e1nicos o electromagn\u00e9ticos hasta ligandos qu\u00edmicos como hormonas o neurotransmisores. Estudios recientes en invertebrados han implicado a la subunidad galpha en la divisi\u00f3n asim\u00e9trica de precursores neuronales y el establecimiento de la barrera hematoencefalica, pero el an\u00e1lisis de mutantes sugieren que la regulaci\u00f3n mediada por prote\u00ednas g heterotrimericas en estos procesos depende fundamentalmente de la subunidades galphai y g betta gamma, mientras que galphai juega un papel secundario. Para identificar los procesos en los que galphai tiene una funci\u00f3n esencial, hemos analizado mutantes de alfa de funci\u00f3n para el gen galphai en drosophila melanogaste. Los mutantes galphai- que carecen del producto  materno y cigotico, muestran una viabilidad muy reducida adem\u00e1s de un pronunciado retraso en su desarrollo. Los defectos en el proceso de ecdisis y en la expresi\u00f3n de neuropepetidos de estos mutantes sugieren un papel esencial de galphai en la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n endocrina. Los mutantes galphai- tambi\u00e9n muestran el ganglio ventral elongado desde embri\u00f3n hasta adulto. El an\u00e1lisis detallado del patr\u00f3n celular del sistema nervioso central de mutantes galphai- indican que galphai es esencial para el desarrollo y\/o diferenciaci\u00f3n tard\u00edos de la glia, y que defectos en este proceso son los responsables principales de la falta de condensaci\u00f3n del ganglio ventral de los mutantes. Adem\u00e1s, los mutantes galphai- muestran duplicaciones y fusiones en el mecanismo de divisi\u00f3n asim\u00e9trica entre precursores neuronales y musculares, sugieren que el papel de galphai en
