La determinacion de la concentracion de aminoacidos se realiza mediante cromatografia liquida de alta resolucion con detector de fluorescencia. Se valoran los efectos del envejecimiento y de farmacos bloqueantes de canales de calcio (neomicina, kanamicina y w-conotoxina) y de sodio (tetrodotoxina) en dicha liberacion. No se observan diferencias en la liberacion espontanea basal de los distintos aminoacidos entre los animales jovenes y viejos. La liberacion espontanea de gaba, acido aspartico, glutamina, tirosina, alanina, serina, valina, isoleucina, fenilalanina, leucina y arginina se ve aumentada por los antibioticos aminoglucosidos empleados.  en cambio, la liberacion espontanea de acido glutamico, taurina, citrulina y metionina no se modifica por dicho tratamiento. Los demas farmacos empleados no modifican la liberacion espontanea de ningun aminoacido. La liberacion evocada por potasio de acido glutamico, taurina y gaba esta influenciada por la edad observandose una menor respuesta en los animales envejecidos. La liberacion evocada con potasio de acido glutamico, alanina y serina resulta bloqueada por neomicina y w-conotoxina; esta ultima tambien inhibe la liberacion evocada con potasio de acido aspartico y tirosina. Por ultimo, la tetrodotoxina es capaz de inhibir la liberacion de todos los aminoacidos sensibles a bloqueantes de canales de calcio y ademas de gaba y valina. Estos datos sugieren que la liberacion evocada por potasio de aminoacidos en corteza frontal de rata se origina por la activacion de multiples tipos de canales de calcio voltaje dependientes y esta
